Day six in Puerto Escondido. It is a glorious sunny day with white caps dancing like so many diamonds atop crystal blue water gently rolling in to its own beat. The earthquake is still being talked about – but mostly forgotten.
There is a true night life here in Puerto. It seems to run in shifts; the last ending around 5 AM.
Rock Away – Puerto Escondido
Tonight we will attend a night of the Blues Festival series with Jackie Lomax and friends. A few nights ago we stopped at the Rock Away to listen to a quintessential local band (par excellence).

The Super Bowl was seen at many watering holes around Puerto; some of them were English broadcasts as well. We watched at the Split Coconut; where the Blues Festival venue is as well.
The Split CocoNut – Yes you can order from the pool at the bar.
There is a club called Casa Babylon that does not get going until 11 PM – we probably won’t make that.
Total relaxation comes in a lot of flavors. There are tamer things than going to the clubs like Sky Diving, SCUBA Diving, and Surfing etc. You can get a massage right at your recliner on the beach. I saw a bank of hammocks. I wondered whether the rental might include or have an option for someone to gently swing you.
A Bank of Zicatela Playa Hammocks
Photo ops abound. I have shot 436 keepers since arriving in Oaxaca. The beauty of the area is almost overwhelming – any which way you look.
If there is snow where you are ENLARGE HERE!
There is no shortage of things to do in Puerto Escondido – day and night. Share our vacation – Stay Tuned!

Comment by teresa 02.10.10 @ 1:44 pmJust got off the tractor, I have been pushing the piles back to make room for the next storm’s snow. Your vacation spot looks nice, I underlined its location in my Guia Roji atlas. Maybe next winter…
Comment by kwallek 02.10.10 @ 2:04 pmThanks for your post. I feel like I am back in Ixtapa, where I vacationed last year. I needed that minivacation of your post. It’s hellacious in Honduras now: hot, dry, and dusty. And as always, dirty. Enjoy!
Comment by Laurie 02.10.10 @ 4:41 pmOH! What I wouldn’t give to swing in one of those hammocks! I’m pretty sure that would be the perfect cure for my cold. I hope you continue to enjoy your vacation!
LOVED the photos!!! Thanks
I have enjoyed you travel reports. The photo of the wave breaking over the rock is great.
