Sticker Shock

Marvin’s Sticker Shock – a new 2006 Ford Ranger – OUCH!

We have been back a little longer than it took to drive here from Xico. My Lexmark printer would not work. This is my second or third Lexmark with less than total satisfaction – in fact quite the contrary to satisfied.

Off to town for a new printer and some groceries. On the drive in the first thing I noticed was diesel fuel is mostly $2.99 a gallon where as in Mexico it was 5.77$ pesos per liter or about a dollar less a gallon!

Avocadoes were 69 cents for a medium bulb or about $3.50 a kilo. When we left we were buying a kilo for $1.35 US. Roma tomatoes are $1.56 a pound or $3.43 a kilo while they were 38 cents a kilo in Mexico. Oranges are 68 cents apiece while you can get 10 lbs. (about 14 oranges) for 90 cents in Mexico.

OK I was also there to buy a printer and they are 30% cheaper here – so maybe the day evened out – not sure. But I buy a lot more tomatoes, avocadoes, oranges and diesel fuel than HP printers. ;-(

We have sticker shock.

The weather is grand and we have tons of space in our 2050 square feet Earthship after living a lot of our Mexico time in our Lance truck camper.

We have three satellites burning in about 1200 channels of television and we have mail service. There are trade-offs for sure.

We will make the most of our time here, but won’t be eating as well or for nearly so inexpensively.

Have to go start working on my taxes now that I have Turbo Tax 2006 and a printer.

Oh by the way March was my largest number of readers visiting – thank goodness for more bandwidth and thanks for stopping by. Stay Tuned!
