If You Read This You Will Not Get Swine Flu

Honestly I think there are people living amongst us here on earth that believe they might get the flu from reading this Blog since it was written in Xico, Veracruz, Mexico.

This gave me a chuckle this morning: In response to an ABC News report titled, “Swine Flu Cases Up to 40, CDC Officials Confirm; Mexico Travel Advisory Coming”

Hello Fellow Citizen ” We need to ban all products from Mexico that could contain diseases. Posted by:dresdren 2:12 PM ”
“[dresdren] I think your right, and I was stupid enough to have bought a Watermelon from Mexico, at the store Saturday, do I keep it or throw it away? Do I keep it or Throw it Away? That is the 33 cents a pound question, sincerely Fezzie

People are starting to get nuts over this. Now I am not here to suggest this is not important, rather I suggest using your heads and not getting in a panic. There have been no warnings from any credible authorities that any food product including pork will cause one to get the swine flu. For some added insight to the pig industry in Mexico read here.

There are travel advisories as it has been stated that this is an airborne virus – lots of folks sporting surgical masks. I wish you all good sense and good health. Stay Tuned!

The news media, my former world, is fanning this.

A trip to the ranch if its the big one would be wise. But who knows the future? Did you feel any of today’s earthquake?

Didn’t feel the earthquake – just read about it – which is pretty much how the flu problem is running here – we know of no one that has it – people are worried.

I tend to follow Felipe Zapata’s lead (see above)

Felipe has it right. The media have been waiting for another flu story to run out those World War One horror tales. I am surprised the press gives the public enough credit to have a historical memory that almost spans a decade.

My Grandma lost both her parents when she was six to the flu. Different time. The whole family came down with it that time but only the parents died.
As in most things with the times we are living in, the talking heads are trying to make a living, they do that by fanning the coals to a hot flame on any issue. Flu is something we all have had and got over in a week or so, the idea that it kills is what makes it news. The medical people have been predicting a killer strain for most of my life time, is this the one? I doubt it. It would be nice to be able to see around corners.

My sister and bro-in-law, now working as agronomists in Afghanistan, were just here for a week’s visit. They left yesterday via Mex City airport and felt the earthquake while awaiting their plane with face masks at the ready. What an adventure! More exciting than Afghanistan?

We didn’t feel the earthquake here – did you Frank?

Comment by John Calypso 04.28.09 @ 11:50 am

No, we didnt feel anything. Of course we were drunk during the time.

After reading the comments in the ABC article, it appears that the “chicken little effect” is spreading in the US. Should we ban travelers from the US to Mexico? I wish to preserve my sanity.
